It has become big business especially given the sheer numbers that are involved. Latitude for example attracted over 35,000 people while Glastonbury attracted around 210,000. Those figures do not account for all the performers and associated businesses present at every festival.

Such figures indicate a potential parking nightmare, given that most festivals are held in rural areas where public transport can be limited. Traffic queues are all too common, and can stretch for miles along approach roads. Then there are the problems of getting people from distant car parks to the main site. Get it wrong, and you can all too easily create an immense amount of bad publicity and disgruntled festival goers.

This is exactly what happened at the Download festival in Nottinghamshire. Long queues of bored festival goers blocked approach roads, and once on site insufficient shuttle buses led to further queues of annoyed people, especially when they realized that they could have walked to the main site in half the time. Social media sites ran thousands of stories about the delays, while vocal complaints were registered in the local press.

It makes a cautionary tale for organisers of any music festival. Ignore carparking issues at your peril – this is a subject that has to be dealt with at a very early stage in the preparations and kept constantly updated throughout the event.

The sun is promising to shine and that means the summer festival season is underway. With our marshals and stewards booked for festivals across the UK, which festivals are promising to be popular with the 30 million people expected to attend events across the UK this year?

Wireless Festival
Kicking off July will the three-day festival at Finsbury Park. From 7th to 9th July, thousands of people are expected to pour into the Wireless Festival London. Will you be there?

Lovebox Festival
Hot on the heels of Wireless will be the Lovebox festival London from the 12th to 13th July. With some great names, this two-day event promises to get your summer off to a great start. With Solange topping the bill, buy your tickets now for a packed stage of great performances.

Latitude Festival
Head on over to Suffolk for this year’s Latitude Festival from 18th to 21st July 2019. Again, there are plenty of acts here to entice everyone but check out the website as organisers are taking a strong line on security. Non-compliance means no entry 😥.

Camp Bestival
A family-friendly event, head over to beautiful Lulworth Castle in Dorset for Camp Bestival. When you’re done singing and swaying to Nile Rodgers, you can take the kids to see CBeebies Mr Tumble and other characters from their favourite shows.

Boardmasters
Enjoy surfing and the beach, and good music? Then you’ll love the vibe at Boardmaster Festival in Newquay from 7th to 11th August 2019. Don’t miss Florence and the Machine headlining on Saturday, rising early on Sunday to catch the surf.

Green Man Festival
The Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons in mid-August promises an eclectic line up of acts. Listen to the GM Spotify playlist to get you in the mood and enjoy the beautiful star-filled skies over the Beacons post-festival too.

Creamfields
Is there a better way of spending the last bank holiday of the summer than at a festival? And is there a better late summer festival than Creamfields? Head on over to Daresbury to enjoy the 2019 line-up.

Reading & Leeds Festivals
It may be late summer but before the chill of autumn bites, there is still time to fit in a festival or two. The Reading & Leeds Festivals promise to add more sunshine to your summer. Catch the Foo Fighters among others at these three-day events.

South West Four
Head on over to Clapham Common for the South West Four event from 24th to 25th August 2019 and lap up the last of summer fun with your friends. Tickets are on sale now and there is a veritable feast of acts so get in quick.

Fusion Festival
Last but by no means least, enjoy Fusion Festival in Liverpool. Sitting on the shoulder of summer, this festival is a must-go-to. Before schools back in, enjoy a cacophony of brilliant acts including Kings of Leon and titans of pop Little Mix.
