Event Marshals – Road Safety Campaign at Junction

While the UK boasts relatively safe roads compared to other European countries, the year ending June 2018 still saw over 26,000 people killed or seriously injured, with a total of 165,100 reported road casualties. Marking a 6% decrease from the previous year.
Despite this improvement, the persistently high figures underscore the need for greater caution, particularly as our roads become increasingly congested with not only cars but also lorries, motorbikes, cyclists, and electric scooters in many cities. As pedestrians, it’s imperative that we prioritise safety by using designated crossing places, waiting for pedestrian signals, and refraining from jaywalking, ensuring we navigate roads responsibly and securely.

Case Study – Road Safety Campaign

In response to an increase in incidents involving cyclists and pedestrians at Junction X, attributed to recent changes in traffic flow and light sequences, our team was enlisted to implement a targeted road safety campaign. With a focus on raising awareness and promoting safer practices among road users, particularly during peak hours, our strategy involved deploying six marshals over a week-long period. Additionally, to ensure the message resonated with the community, our client requested the distribution of 25,000 chocolates as a memorable reinforcement of the campaign’s key messages.

Campaign Execution

Our team of marshals was strategically stationed at Junction X during peak traffic hours, engaging with pedestrians and cyclists to raise awareness of the recent changes in traffic flow and signal sequences. Armed with informative leaflets and friendly demeanour, marshals provided guidance on safe crossing practices, highlighted designated crossing points, and emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic signals. Moreover, the marshals facilitated open dialogue with commuters, addressing any concerns or queries regarding the new traffic configurations.

To enhance the impact of the campaign and foster community engagement, our team distributed 25,000 chocolates imprinted with road safety messages and reminders. This creative approach not only captured the attention of passersby but also served as a tangible reminder of the campaign’s objectives. The chocolates acted as conversation starters, sparking discussions among commuters, and further reinforcing the importance of road safety awareness at Junction X.

The road safety campaign at Junction X yielded significant results in improving awareness and promoting safer behaviours among pedestrians and cyclists. Our marshals successfully engaged with over 2,000 commuters daily, providing invaluable guidance on navigating the junction safely.
